The Alder species of wood usually has a uniform grain and fine texture, making it ideal for staining and mimicking the appearance of other woods. Although it is considered to be a "hardwood," Alder is not as durable as other hardwoods such as Cherry, Maple, or Oak.
The reddish brown image on the left would be typical for "Clear Alder", however Alder can also be used to create a charactered look. "Knotty Alder," also called "Rustic Alder," contains open knots and black streaks up to three inches long. Please specify your preference when ordering.
